Under 9s news...Under 9s news...Under 9s news...Under 9s news... FHMFC Tournament 2009 - how you can help: Please help us set up the pitches at Green Dragon Lane on Sunday the 24th from 9.00am onwards... On Monday 25th, the under 9 coaches will once again be manning the BBQ in the afternoon and help with cooking or serving would be much appreciated... We will also be responsible for selling raffle tickets in the afternoon, so any help with this would also be appreciated... Finally, any help you can give to get everything packed away on the Monday evening would be great... Under 9s news...Under 9s news...Under 9s news...Under 9s news...

ABOUT US

Welcome to the official website of the Flackwell Heath Minors FC Under 9s football team.

Our goal (if you pardon the pun) is to provide a safe and friendly environment for children to learn about the greatest game on earth, association football, and to allow them to fulfill their potential, whilst learning to respect themselves, their peers and their opposition.

This season, our training will not only focus on the key cornerstones of ball skills, technique and teamwork, but also "match-craft". That is, the children’s understanding of the key skills necessary to be successful defenders, midfielders, strikers and, of course, goal keepers. Our ultimate aim is to make the children better, more accomplished players, by encouraging their natural flair and talent.

To achieve this aim, we will be using a variety of drills and games designed to replicate match-day situations – for example, small sided, two-touch and attack-on-defense games - to teach the children about the importance of teamwork, ball control, positioning and tactics.

Each of the children will spend time learning these skills and techniques every week and we will always finish with practice matches, during which the children will be encouraged to put what they've learnt into practice. For a bit of fun, we will also have a weekly penalty shoot-out.

We hope that, during the course of the season, all the children will enjoy themselves and become better, more confident and skillful footballers.

This season, as an added incentive, we will be awarding the captains arm-band for the following Sunday’s match to a child who has worked particularly hard in training or has impressed us in some other way.

MATCH DAYS

We have two match day teams, known as the "Lions" and "Tigers". We will try to give as many children as possible a chance to play on match days. However, this season we will start picking players on merit - either as a result of something we have seen in training or during matches. We will also pick children to play in certain positions and encourage them to build defensive, midfield and attacking partnerships with other players through consistent team selection.

Unfortunately, with 25 children "on the books", this will mean that some will get less of an opportunity to play in matches than others. We will always try to be fair, but the ultimate responsibility for picking the match-day teams rests with the Manager. That said, the Manager's door is always open, so if you have any questions about how the team is picked, please feel free to speak to John or one of the other coaches - contact details below.

If anyone takes photographs of the action on match days, please email them to Alec Hughes (details below) and, if they're any good, we'll put them on the website.

RESPECT

We would encourage as many parents as possible to come along and support the team on match days, but it is important that you always show respect to the players, team officials and match officials, and display a positive and encouraging attitude towards the players.

You can find a link to our "Code of Conduct for Players and Parents" at the top of this page.
